A dead guard in Duskwood hands out a torch

Duskwood hides a torch for the darkest corners of World of Warcraft: Forever. The Night Watchman’s Torch comes from a dead Night Watch Guard who only shows up at night. A quest above his body hands it out at once.

The new lighting of Forever makes some zones truly dark after sunset. Duskwood is one of the first for the Alliance; Tirisfal Glades and Silverpine Forest do the same for the Horde. In the early hours the forest floor of Stranglethorn Vale turns black, and enemies in the trees are little more than glowing eyes.

What the torch does

Use the Night Watchman’s Torch and your character holds a burning torch for 5 minutes. The item has a cooldown of 30 seconds. The light goes out as soon as you take any combat action, when you walk into water and inside the major cities.

The torch is unique and binds when picked up, so you carry only one. Whoever deletes it can go back to Duskwood for a new one.

Where the guard lies

The Night Watch Guard has no fixed spot. Players have found him in the south and west of Duskwood, most often at Raven Hill, at /way Duskwood 18.1 55.2. Other sightings are at the crossroads south of the Twilight Grove, on the road south to Stranglethorn Vale and northeast of the Twilight Grove.

He appears only at night. From 20:00 game time the odds are best. The macro /target Night Watch Guard helps to find him in the dark.

Above the body hangs a yellow exclamation mark. The quest can be completed on the spot, and several players can do it. Once you have the torch, the quest disappears for you, but the guard stays in the world.

For the Horde

The Horde can get the torch too, but the road is longer. Take the zeppelin from Orgrimmar to Grom’gol in Stranglethorn Vale and travel north into Duskwood.
