Blizzard does not rule out a third spec

World of Warcraft: Forever may get a third spec later. Principal game designer Kris Zierhut does not rule it out in an interview. For now, two specs are enough for most content, and talents stay a choice with a cost.

Talents stay a commitment

Dual Spec takes away a lot of the pressure from Classic, says Zierhut. A healer no longer needs to quest with a build made for groups, and a Druid can switch between Restoration and Balance whenever it suits. Dual Spec unlocks at level 40.

Changing the talents themselves stays a choice. That cannot happen anywhere in the world: for a new build you still visit a class trainer and pay for the respec.

A third spec, maybe

Two builds are enough for most of the classic content for now, but a third spec is one of the ideas to make talents easier to use. A Paladin could then switch freely between Retribution, Holy and Protection, or a Warlock could keep three versions of Affliction. Earlier, Blizzard said there were no plans to go beyond two specs. When or whether a third one comes, it does not say.

No loadouts

The loadouts of retail, several talent builds within one spec, will not come to Forever. Blizzard does not want players to feel they should change their talents before every boss. Each spec keeps one build, as with Dual Spec now.
