Character creation now has SD and HD portraits

Character creation in World of Warcraft: Forever now has SD and HD portraits. With the high-definition models switched off, the races show the old portraits again. Until now the modern portraits from retail always appeared. A recent beta build brought the old ones back.

The switch is the High-Definition Models checkbox at the bottom right of the screen. With the box ticked, the races carry the portraits of modern World of Warcraft. Without it, they get the portraits of the original game again. The character itself also switches to the old model. Only the portraits of the Skyborne, the new race, look the same in both.

Which build brought the change is not known. Players had asked for the old portraits. The same switch also works in the barbershop, where a player on the old models edits the character in those models.

Players who choose the classic options care a lot about whether they look exactly as they once did. Content creators such as Xaryu ask Blizzard for a switch that puts the whole interface in its old form. Whether that switch comes, Blizzard has not said.
