Dungeon maps are probably not coming
Dungeons in World of Warcraft: Forever will probably not get a map. A map makes players look for the shortest route, says Senior Game Designer Jay Hartman. Blizzard wants a dungeon to feel like an adventure, with corners worth exploring.
Hartman said it in the third episode of The WoW: Forever Podcast, on 8 October. Some players ask for dungeon maps, to find their way more easily and finish a run faster. Others enjoy finding the way themselves. Classic had no maps inside dungeons either.
We want you to feel like it’s an adventure and it’s threatening and we want you to explore those nooks and crannies. If you have a dungeon map, people find the shortest route possible and try to avoid stuff. We want to try to incentivize you to go explore […] This is a good reason of why we probably won’t have dungeon maps because of all of these things.
Hartman does not rule maps out completely. In the same episode, Blizzard announced 20% more experience from kills in dungeons. Until a map arrives, the dungeon guides describe the route through each dungeon.
