EU players pick French to find busier layers

Some players in World of Warcraft: Forever find their layer too empty: no one in Orgrimmar, no fights over mobs or herbs. On the official EU forums, players share a workaround: set your preferred online language to French, and you end up on a much busier layer.

How it works

Go to Options → System → Languages and Social → Preferred Online Language and choose French. The language of your text and audio does not matter. According to the player who posted the trick, French is the default setting of the client, so most players in Europe stand on that layer without knowing it. With English you would only see a part of the players.

Keep in mind:

  • you can only change this setting once every 24 hours;
  • chat on that layer is not only French, many players write English;
  • it does not work for everyone: a player on the RP-PvP ruleset saw no difference in Orgrimmar;
  • French players on the forums are not happy with the crowd of English speakers.

Blizzard is tweaking

Blizzard knows about the empty areas. On 5 November it wrote on the forums:

Just wanted to chime in and say that we are aware of some issues with certain areas not feeling as populated as they should. We will be tweaking some numbers tomorrow to help things feel a bit more lively.

Layers already changed shortly before the launch: groups no longer move you to a new layer. Which ruleset you play on, you read in our rulesets guide.
