Every gathering node can drop a scarce material

The gathering tradeskills of WoW Forever have a new kind of material. Scarce materials have no nodes of their own but drop now and then from any herb, ore or skinned beast. Three are known on the beta, one per tradeskill.

The three materials

Tradeskill Scarce material
Mining Pyrite
Herbalism Frilled Lichen
Skinning Pristine Leather

The item itself says Scarce in its tooltip. It is a rarer extra on top of the normal loot, writes Icy Veins.

What they are for

All three go into new recipes of other tradeskills. Frilled Lichen is used in Enchant Weapon - Insight, which can double Spirit for 10 seconds when you cast a spell, and in Cerulean Dye from Alchemy. That dye goes into many Tailoring recipes.

Pyrite shows up in Tailoring too, for example in Shining Boots. Pristine Leather goes into Leatherworking, such as the Brawler’s Leather Hood, and into Blacksmithing and Tailoring.

What comes later

Bauxite and Pitchblende are in the files as Scarce materials for Mining, writes Icy Veins. Blizzard has not said at what skill level they appear, or whether Herbalism and Skinning get more of them.
