Heavier rain and fog are coming to the beta
The weather in WoW Forever gets heavier. Blizzard showed a short video of a rainy day in Elwynn Forest, with dense rain and low fog. The effects come to the beta zones soon, says community manager Kaivax on the forums.
Kaivax posted the video on 23 September under the title Increased Weather Effects, with one line of text:
Coming soon to the Beta
There are no patch notes and no date.
What the video shows
The video lasts 38 seconds and has no voice. It opens with the title “A Rainy Day in Elwynn Forest” and a sign to turn the sound on. Then comes rain on a wagon, on a road past a farmhouse and on the woods of Elwynn, seen from under the trees.
Twice the camera looks out from indoors, through a window. In the second shot a character sits in a doorway and watches the rain. The fog hangs low between the trees in almost every shot.
Part of a wider change
At BlizzCon, Associate Production Director Clay Stone said the Classic art style is not being replaced. Existing effects get better instead: flowing rivers, more natural fog and moonlight through the trees. The weather fits that line.
Weather is not new in itself. The original game already had rain, snow and storms in some zones. On the forum players asked right away whether it can be switched off, because the fog in the beta already limits how far you can see. Blizzard has not answered that.
Which zones get the effects, and whether snow and storms are part of it, is not known.
