Skyborne and Night Elves talk across factions in Darnassian

A Skyborne of the Horde can talk with elves of the Alliance in World of Warcraft: Forever. A beta player showed it on Reddit. Both sides speak Darnassian, and the files of the beta give that language to all three elf races.

The post comes from the Reddit user Odin_69, on 23 September, and has more than 660 upvotes and 285 comments.

What the screenshot shows

Two level 20 characters stand on a road in Ashenvale. One is Odin, a Skyborne of the Horde according to the post; the other is Grimclaw Moonrage, a Night Elf Druid of the Alliance. In the chat both say lines in Darnassian, such as “crazy right” and “that is pretty wild”, and the conversation goes back and forth.

Normally a player of the other faction sees only scrambled words. A shared language is the way around that: a player picks Darnassian in the chat, and anyone who knows it reads along.

What the files say

The client files of the beta confirm it. In build 1.60.1.70009, Darnassian belongs to three races: Night Elf, High Order Skyborne and Windshaper Skyborne. The High Order also speak Common, the Windshapers Orcish.

In practice that opens one line across the factions. A Windshaper on the Horde side can talk with every Night Elf and every High Order Skyborne of the Alliance. Both Skyborne factions start together on Zephras Isle and descend from the same Highborne exiles.

Bug or design

Blizzard has not said whether this is intended. Blizzard has always kept the Horde and the Alliance apart, and this may be a leftover from the shared start of the Skyborne. Many players on Reddit praise it for roleplay.

Whether the language stays at the launch on 4 November is not known.
