The hole beneath Karazhan is gone from the beta
The hole that led beneath Karazhan is gone on the WoW Forever beta. Below the tower lay a smiley face on the ground, a well-known Easter egg. The entrance has been filled, but the smiley is still there, according to players.
A secret players liked to show
For years, explorers used the hole to slip under the tower in Deadwind Pass. Players often took newcomers and friends there to show them the smiley. On the beta that route is closed, players discovered.
The post compares the spot in Classic and in Forever. In Classic there is a gap in the rock, in Forever the rock is closed. The collision overlay in the same image no longer shows an opening.
The smiley itself was not removed, players say. With certain camera tricks it can still be seen. Which build brought the change, is not known.
Closed elsewhere for a while
Retail WoW and Mists of Pandaria Classic closed the route some time ago. On The Burning Crusade Classic Anniversary it still works. Whether players find another way under the tower on Forever, is not known.
New content in Karazhan
Some players see the change as a sign of new content. The ideas range from Karazhan Crypts, the dungeon Blizzard added in Season of Discovery, to a full raid inside the tower. Retail already returned to the tower with the dungeon Return to Karazhan in Legion.
Other players expect new content in Karazhan to be instanced anyway, without any need for that spot. Then the change is only polish. Blizzard has not said whether the closed hole has anything to do with future content.
