Blizzard details the three raids of 9 December

Blizzard has described the three raids that open on 9 December in World of Warcraft: Forever. Barrow Deeps has eight bosses for 10 players, Hyjal Summit 13 bosses for 20 players, and Onyxia’s Lair stays a raid for 40 that needs an attunement.

Raid Players Bosses Where
Barrow Deeps 10 8 Beneath Kalimdor, with entrances on Mount Hyjal, in Winterspring and in Blackmaw Hold
Hyjal Summit 20 13 The peak of Mount Hyjal, near the World Tree Nordrassil
Onyxia’s Lair 40 1 Dustwallow Marsh

All three are for level 60. Blizzard currently plans a weekly reset for every raid, so a group can keep a fixed raid night.

Barrow Deeps, the prison of Illidan

The Barrow Deeps held Illidan Stormrage for 10,000 years. Its dark passages are open now, and players go down to find out what became of those who stayed behind and how the wardens want to contain the danger below.

Three entrances lead in: through Mount Hyjal, Winterspring and Blackmaw Hold, the dungeon in Azshara. Inside, a group of 10 faces eight bosses.

Hyjal Summit, 13 bosses and several paths

Hyjal Summit lies at the peak of Mount Hyjal, near Nordrassil. It opens with a fight against an ancient guardian. After that, the raid chooses between several paths across the mountain, through ruins above and below ground, before the way to the final encounters opens.

Onyxia’s Lair, bring fire resistance

Onyxia, of the Black Dragonflight and the younger sister of Nefarian, guards her brood deep in Dustwallow Marsh. Her fight has three phases with heavy fire attacks. Blizzard advises building fire resistance before going in and being ready to move as the fight shifts.

Every member of the raid needs the Drakefire Amulet to enter. It only has to be in your bags, not equipped. The developers already said in October that the attunement stays; now Blizzard lists every step.

The attunement, step by step

Each faction has its own chain. Blizzard advises starting early, bringing a few friends for the elite quests and counting on several trips into high-level dungeons.

Alliance

  1. Dragonkin Menace from Helendis Riverhorn in the Burning Steppes.
  2. Six quests named The True Masters, about the hold of the Black Dragonflight on the Blackrock orcs. They end with Marshal Maxwell at Morgan’s Vigil.
  3. Marshal Windsor: find Marshal Windsor, or proof of his death, in Blackrock Depths. He sends you back to Maxwell with Abandoned Hope.
  4. A Crumpled Up Note drops from enemies in Blackrock Depths and starts A Crumpled Up Note. Bring it to Windsor in his cell.
  5. A Shred of Hope: take Windsor’s lost information from Golem Lord Argelmach and General Angerforge.
  6. Jail Break!: help Windsor escape Blackrock Depths, then go back to Maxwell.
  7. Stormwind Rendezvous: meet Squire Rowe at the gates of Stormwind and call Windsor.
  8. The Great Masquerade: gather allies for the masquerade in Stormwind. Talk to Squire Rowe if Windsor is not there.
  9. The Dragon’s Eye: Highlord Bolvar Fordragon sends you across Azeroth to find someone who can help.
  10. Drakefire Amulet: take the Blood of the Black Dragon Champion from General Drakkisath in Upper Blackrock Spire and receive the Drakefire Amulet.

Horde

  1. Blood and Thunder from Warlord Goretooth in Kargath, in the Badlands.
  2. Warlord’s Command takes you through Lower Blackrock Spire.
  3. Goretooth sends you to Eitrigg in Orgrimmar, and then to Thrall.
  4. For The Horde!: bring Thrall the head of Warchief Rend Blackhand from Lower Blackrock Spire.
  5. What the Wind Carries, then find Rexxar on the roads of Desolace for The Champion of the Horde.
  6. The Testament of Rexxar: bring his testament to Myranda the Hag in the Western Plaguelands.
  7. Oculus Illusions: collect Black Dragonspawn Eyes.
  8. Emberstrife: use the Amulet of Draconic Subversion to find the ancient drake Emberstrife in Dustwallow Marsh.
  9. Four tests: The Test of Skulls, Scryer, The Test of Skulls, Somnus, The Test of Skulls, Chronalis and The Test of Skulls, Axtroz, each asking for the skull of a named dragon.
  10. Ascension… gives the Dull Drakefire Amulet. Bring it to Rexxar in Desolace.
  11. Blood of the Black Dragon Champion: take the blood from General Drakkisath in Upper Blackrock Spire and return to Rexxar for the Drakefire Amulet.

Ready on 9 December

The raids open five weeks after the launch of 4 November, which leaves time to reach level 60 and finish the attunement. Our raid planner helps to fill a group of 10, 20 or 40, and every date is on the Forever hub.
