Lightning and snowstorms arrive on the beta
Thunderstorms on the beta of World of Warcraft: Forever now come with lightning that lights up the world around you. The effect arrived with the build of 16 October, along with heavier rain. Players also found new snowstorms in the Alterac Mountains.
Blizzard confirmed the change on X the same night. Storms now build up first, before the lightning starts to strike.
Each strike has new sound and uses the dynamic lighting of the game, so a flash briefly lights up buildings, trees and characters. Players noticed it within hours of the maintenance. On X, Matt Heyman reacted to a clip of lightning over a city.
Snow in the Alterac Mountains
Blizzard only mentioned thunderstorms and rain. Snowstorms in the Alterac Mountains were found by players, who shared them on Reddit. Which other zones get new weather is not known.
In September, Blizzard showed heavier rain and fog in Elwynn Forest, with the promise that it would come to the beta soon. The weather is part of a wider update to the world of Forever, with better fog, light and water. Blizzard explained that at BlizzCon in the panel Evolving a Timeless World.
