Names allow 2 to 12 letters and no apostrophes
Name reservation for World of Warcraft: Forever opens tomorrow, 27 October, at 18:00 Belgian time. Each character needs a first and a last name of 2 to 12 letters, without spaces, hyphens, numbers or apostrophes. Character creation works in full during the reservation.
The rules for a name
Every character carries a first and a second name. Neither has to be unique on its own; the combination has to be free across all rulesets of the region.
- Each name counts 2 to 12 characters.
- Accented letters such as ñ and ö are allowed.
- No spaces, hyphens, numbers, symbols or punctuation. That includes the apostrophe.
- The same letter cannot appear more than twice in a row: no “xxx” or “eee”.
- The first letter is a capital, the rest lowercase.
What is not allowed
Names keep to the in-game Code of Conduct. A name that passes the filter can still be flagged later. The result is a forced rename, and the account can be punished too, as happened on the beta.
- Hate speech, discriminatory language, obscenities and slurs
- Explicit sexual references, anatomical terms included
- Real-world political figures
- Names that pose as a Blizzard employee
- Major lore figures such as Thrall, Arthas and Sylvanas
Stricter on the Roleplay ruleset
The Roleplay ruleset adds three rules. A name can be flagged there when it does not sound medieval or fantasy, when it refers to well-known people, characters, brands, places or icons, or when it consists of several words.
Reservation from tomorrow
Owners of an upgrade edition can reserve up to three characters before the launch on 4 November. Names go to whoever is first.
