Quests give no gold at level 60 in WoW Forever

Quests in World of Warcraft: Forever pay no gold once you reach level 60. Jokerd, one of the first five players at 60, noticed it on stream. A developer told him it is on purpose.

No gold instead of experience

In Classic Era, a quest at the level cap pays extra gold instead of the experience you can no longer use. In Forever that bonus is gone, Jokerd found the day after he reached 60.

Jokerd says he messaged a WoW developer, who replied that the change is intentional. A weekly quest that pays a random amount of gold may take its place. Blizzard itself has not said anything about it yet.

Part of a bigger plan

Blizzard has been steering the economy of Forever for weeks. Auction deposits changed twice, and the Black Market sells reagents such as Black Lotus to cap their price. In that interview the team said players print money in an MMO, so gold needs places to go.

How much this changes the flow of gold, only becomes clear once more players reach 60.
