Warlockguy wins the 50,000 dollar Forever Open

Warlockguy has won the Forever Open, the dueling tournament on the beta of World of Warcraft: Forever. The Warlock beat Neepzen, also a Warlock, 3-1 in the grand final in the early hours of 19 October. The prize is 50,000 dollars.

Neepzen had won their first meeting 2-1, in the final of the upper bracket. Warlockguy then beat Cdewx, a Shaman, 2-0 in the final of the lower bracket and met Neepzen again. The deciding duel came at about 4.40 Belgian time, on the stream of Xaryu.

Warlocks at the top

Warlocks took first and second place, together worth 55,555 dollars. The best player of every class wins 5,555 dollars. For the class of the champion, that share goes to the second best player, so Neepzen takes the Warlock prize.

In the qualifying rounds, 14 Warlocks stayed unbeaten. Only Paladins did better, with 15. Against Paladins and in Warlock mirror matches, Warlocks won half of their duels. Mages gave them the most trouble. Against every other class, Warlocks won more often than they lost.

A player on Reddit collected the class matchups from all 4,673 qualifier matches.

What Warlocks bring at level 30

At level 30, a Warlock controls the opponent with Fear and the Seduction of the Succubus. Damage over time stops enemies from healing up or slipping into stealth. Demonic Sacrifice and Soul Link make the demon a flexible buff.

The tournament ran on 17 and 18 October, for level 30 Horde characters. On day one, 36 of 1,380 players reached the finals, four per class. The finals were played in Hyjal Crater, which Blizzard opened for the event. TipsOut organised the tournament, with 100,000 dollars in prizes. The full bracket is on Raider.IO.
