PvP ranks return with a weekly cap
Blizzard has explained how PvP progression works in World of Warcraft: Forever. It rests on two parts: Honor and Rank Points. The 14 ranks from the original game return, with a weekly cap. Honor buys a blue and an epic gear set.
Blizzard describes the goal as approachable and familiar: the original Honor System, simplified but true to its roots. Each season also adds weekly tasks, so players have a reason to keep playing PvP.
Honor
Honor is a currency. Players earn it by defeating other players, finishing battlegrounds and completing PvP quests. A battleground in its holiday week gives extra Honor.
Blizzard has also evened out the Honor gains across battlegrounds. Players should be able to play every map without choosing Alterac Valley only for its Honor, says Blizzard.
Rank Points
Rank Points come from battlegrounds and PvP quests, again with a bonus during the holiday week. They move a player through the ranks of the original game, up to High Warlord for the Horde and Grand Marshal for the Alliance.
The ranks have a weekly cap. According to the PvP tab in the screenshot from Blizzard, the cap rises each week, up to 24,750 Rank Points for Rank 14. Rank 1 asks for 750 points.

The tab sits in the character pane: press C and open Player vs. Player on the right. It shows the rank, the Rank Points and the rewards that are available. A Horde player buys them in the Hall of Legends in Orgrimmar.
Two sets of gear
Honor buys two PvP sets, one in blue and one in epic quality. An epic piece takes the blue piece plus an Emboldened Seal, and those seals ask for a minimum rank.
Blizzard has also added new and reworked items for specs that had no PvP gear before. Shaman, for example, get a set for healers, one for melee and one for casters.

Seasons
PvP runs in seasons. Each season has a journey with weekly tasks that give Honor and Rank Points. Three tasks per season also give a Legacy Point. Because those tasks belong to the Legacy System, they stay open in later seasons.
When the first PvP season starts and how long a season lasts, Blizzard does not say.
