Blizzard rules out a WoW Token and boosts in WoW Forever

There are no plans for a WoW Token or a boost in World of Warcraft: Forever. Clay Stone, Associate Production Director, said so in an interview with Destin at BlizzCon 2026, reports Wowhead. The journey is the game, is the reasoning.

Destin spoke with Stone and with Nora Mills, Lead Software Engineer.

The beta

The beta starts with a level cap of 20 and raises it to 30 later. That cap of 30 stays for the rest of the beta. At launch everyone starts at level 1.

Coming in new

Players do not need a history in modern WoW or Classic to start, says Blizzard. The Legacy system rewards playing more than one character and makes a new run a little easier.

The team wants the player to be the humble adventurer of the vanilla era again, where the journey counts for more than the destination.

The new zones

The Riverglades were a piece of the map that had never been filled in. Blizzard saw room there for something other than repeating Scarlet Monastery. Testers said the zone felt as if it had been part of Classic all along.

Transmog

Players who want a world without transmog can play that way, and players who like it can use it. The team calls that giving players the choice.

After launch

Season of Discovery taught the team how to build a roadmap, says Blizzard. Forever grows sideways rather than upward: for the foreseeable future the game stays on Azeroth, in the zones that were never finished or never used.

Most of the work sits in the Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor for now. What does not happen is a step through the Dark Portal. When the first content after launch arrives, Blizzard does not say.

The quest designers write their own quests and their own dialogue, and work with the lore team and with Chris Metzen.
