Hunter pets lose utility, but wolves buff the raid

Three Hunter pet abilities in World of Warcraft: Forever lose much of their power in the beta build of 15 October. Dismember, Sonic Blast and Mine! did what other classes are there for: cut healing, slow casts and disarm. Players found that Hunters brought too much utility with them, especially in PvP.

The changes are in the class changes of that build. The build data shows a bit more.

The nerfs

Ability Pet Now Before
Dismember Crocolisk 25% less healing for 6 sec, 15 sec cooldown 50% for 10 sec, 6 sec cooldown
Sonic Blast Bat Casts 30% slower for 20 sec, 1 min cooldown 60% for 30 sec, 30 sec cooldown
Mine! Bird of Prey Disarm for 3 sec, 1.5 min cooldown 4 sec, 1 min cooldown

The damage of the abilities stays the same at every rank. Dismember is now much weaker and comes far less often. Warriors and Warlocks, whose Mortal Strike and Curse of Tongues do the same jobs, get some of their place back, above all in PvP.

Furious Howl for the raid

The wolf’s Furious Howl raises the melee attack power of nearby allies for 1 minute. In the build data, it now reaches party and raid members within 15 yards. Blizzard does not mention it in the development notes. It fits the same build, which makes Battle Shout, Trueshot Aura and four Shaman totems work for the whole raid.

The raid planner now shows the new raid-wide buffs. Pets are not in it, so the howl of a wolf is not counted.

The rest for Hunters

Pets now benefit from Expertise and use the higher of melee and ranged critical strike chance. A Hunter may have one Fire trap and one Ice trap active at the same time. Wands and Auto Shot again need the player to stand still for 0.5 seconds before shooting.

All of this applies to the beta. Whether it stays the same for the launch on 4 November, Blizzard does not say.
