What changes for Holy

  • Prayer of Mending is the new last talent. A heal that waits on a target and jumps on to the next one who takes damage, up to 5 times.
  • Binding Heal is new. It heals a friendly target and yourself at the same time, for about the cost of a Flash Heal.
  • Litany of Light is new. Mana back when your heal is a different spell than the one before it.
  • Spiritual Guidance is reworked. Up to 25% of your total Spirit becomes healing power.
  • Inspiration counts every non-periodic critical heal. 25% more Armor on the target for 15 seconds.
  • Meditation is stronger. 50% of your mana regeneration keeps going while you cast, at 3/3.

Strengths and weaknesses

Free points.

  • Running out of mana with a lot of Renew? Move a few points to Mental Agility, which lowers the cost of your instant spells.
  • If your raid lacks offensive dispels and you have to do it, a few points in Holy Precision make Dispel Magic miss less.
  • Twilight Focus helps against pushback, but only on fights where you take damage while casting.

What the key talents do

Talent What it does in Forever
Improved Renew 15% more healing from Renew at 3/3. A cheap way to make a spell you cast all the time stronger
Binding Heal Heals your target and yourself for about the cost of a Flash Heal. Two heals for the price of one
Spiritual Guidance Up to 25% of your total Spirit as extra healing, so your Spirit is never wasted
Litany of Light 10% of the base cost back when you switch to another heal
Spiritual Healing 10% more healing from all your spells
Prayer of Mending A heal that jumps through the raid to whoever gets hit
Meditation 50% of your mana regeneration while casting. Every Priest wants it

Healing per situation

A healer has no fixed rotation. You respond to the damage that comes in and to your assignment.

Healing a tank

  • Renew on a tank that takes steady damage.
  • Power Word: Shield on the tank before a big hit, and on yourself against pushback. A shield on a caster also keeps them from being pushed back.
  • Flash Heal or Binding Heal when the tank needs health fast.
  • Greater Heal when you know a big hit is coming, or when you need a lot of healing at once. Combine it with Inner Focus.
  • Holy Nova or Prayer of Mending when more people take damage.

Healing the group (the strength of Holy)

  • Renew on as many targets as possible that take steady damage.
  • Shields on whoever is about to take a big hit.
  • Flash Heal or Binding Heal to top up targets one after the other.
  • Greater Heal with Inner Focus for big gaps.
  • Holy Nova when the whole group takes damage at once.

Cooldowns and utility

  • Abolish Disease first when an important disease goes out.
  • Inner Focus with your big heals: no mana cost and more critical strike chance.
  • Dispel Magic to remove Magic effects from allies, or Magic buffs from enemies.
  • Fade when your threat is about to get too high, before you pull aggro.

Mana and mouseover healing

Mana. Meditation keeps 50% of your mana regeneration going while you cast. Litany of Light rewards you for switching between heals, which saves a lot of mana over a long fight.

Mouseover healing. Your heal lands on the unit frame under your mouse instead of on your target. You keep the boss targeted, see what it casts and how much health it has left, and react faster. Forever uses the modern interface, so you need no macro or addon: turn it on under Options, Combat. Under Keybindings you also find Click Casting to bind heals to mouse buttons.

Movement

The Priest has almost no tools to move quickly. Choose a spot in range of the whole group, and use Renew and shields when you have to walk.

Stats and gear

The order for a Holy Priest:

  1. Healing power. The biggest effect on how much you heal.
  2. Intellect. A bigger mana pool and more critical strike chance with heals.
  3. Mana per 5 seconds. The best way to restore mana outside your talents.
  4. Spirit. Not as good for mana as mana per 5 seconds, but Spiritual Guidance turns it into healing.
  5. Critical strike chance. Nice for big heals, but first make sure your mana lasts.

Armor. Cloth with healing power is good for you.

Weapon. Death Speaker Scepter from Razorfen Kraul adds a lot of healing power. Keep an eye out for it while leveling.

Pristine set. Tailors make the Pristine pieces, such as Pristine Gown, from patterns of the Commerce Society in Redridge Mountains or the Barrens. Strong, but a detour from leveling.

Ring. Philanthropist’s Ring gives 10 spell power for 20 books. See the library books guide.

Races and professions

Faction Race Why
Alliance Gnome Eureka for mana, Expansive Mind for a bigger mana pool and Contingency Plan as an emergency heal
Alliance Human Ruthless for critical strike chance, and Divine Grace removes Weakened Soul so you can shield again in an emergency
Horde Undead Dark Sacrifice is a very good mana tool. Troll brings a healer almost nothing

The differences between races are very small. Pick the race you enjoy.

Professions. Tailoring gives you cloth gear, and Forever adds new patterns, such as belts at level 10 with healing power. Enchanting makes your own wands and enchants. Engineering gets new schematics and trinkets in Forever and is always a strong choice.

Frequently asked questions

Is Holy Priest good in WoW Forever?

Yes, Holy is a very solid raid healer with a tool for almost every situation: Renew, shields, fast single target heals, Binding Heal, Holy Nova and Prayer of Mending. Its weak points are movement and some randomness in where Prayer of Mending jumps.

What does Prayer of Mending do?

It sits on a target and heals them the next time they take damage. Then it jumps to another party or raid member within 20 yards, up to 5 times, and lasts 30 seconds after each jump. Only one can be active per Priest.

What is Litany of Light?

A new talent: when your heal is a different spell than your previous heal, you get back mana equal to 10% of its base cost at 2/2. It rewards mixing your heals instead of casting the same one over and over.

Holy or Discipline?

Holy for group and raid healing, Discipline for tank healing and Power Infusion. Both share the same mana tools from the Discipline tree.

Which race is best for a Holy Priest?

Gnome or Human for the Alliance, Undead for the Horde. Undead gets Dark Sacrifice for mana, while Troll offers a healer almost nothing.

Is this build final?

No. It uses the talents of the beta build of 15 October for level 60. The beta stops at level 30, so values can still change before or after the launch on 4 November.
