Blackfathom Deeps: the dungeon guide for WoW Forever

Blackfathom Deeps is a sunken temple of Elune on the coast of Ashenvale. The Twilight’s Hammer and the naga have taken it over, and at the bottom waits Aku’mai, a hydra in service of the Old Gods. Most of the temple is above water; some parts can only be reached by swimming. The dungeon is the same as in Classic, its loot is largely new in WoW Forever.

Getting there

The entrance lies in the sunken Night Elf ruins on the Zoram Strand, in the northwest corner of Ashenvale, at /way 14.5 14.6. Dive into the pool at the bottom of the ruins and follow the narrow, winding cave behind it. It is full of elite naga, so go in as a group.

The Horde has Zoram’gar Outpost a short way south, where Je’neu Sancrea hands out three of the quests. The Alliance gathers its quests in Darnassus, Darkshore and Ironforge.

The route

  1. The first cavern. Ghamoo-ra, a turtle, waits in the water. Argent Guard Thaelrid and the Lorgalis Manuscript are in an alcove of the same room.
  2. The naga. Lady Sarevess stands with two guards further on.
  3. The murlocs. Gelihast guards a room of murlocs. Clear it one pull at a time. After the fight, click the stone behind him for the Blessing of Blackfathom.
  4. The Twilight’s Hammer. Lorgus Jett walks with his followers in the temple. The Fathom Stone that summons Baron Aquanis lies underwater.
  5. The ceremonial chamber. Twilight Lord Kelris waits before the final room. Old Serra’kis swims in the deep water and is optional.
  6. Aku’mai. The final room, with Aku’mai at the far end.

The quests of the Horde

The Essence of Aku’Mai. Je’neu Sancrea only offers it after Trouble in the Deeps, a quest from Tsunaman at Sunrock Retreat. The 20 Sapphires of Aku’Mai grow as crystals on the walls of the cave that leads to the entrance, so this quest is done outside the dungeon.

Allegiance to the Old Gods. A Blackfathom Tide Priestess outside the dungeon can drop a Damp Note. Bring it to Je’neu Sancrea, and she sends you to kill Lorgus Jett inside.

Amongst the Ruins. Click the Fathom Stone underwater in the dungeon. Baron Aquanis appears; after he dies, every party member clicks the stone again to take the Fathom Core.

Baron Aquanis. The Baron drops a Strange Water Globe, which starts this quest. Hand it in to Je’neu Sancrea.

Blackfathom Villainy. Argent Guard Thaelrid, in an alcove of the room of Ghamoo-ra, wants the head of Twilight Lord Kelris. The Horde brings it to Bashana Runetotem in Thunder Bluff.

The quests of the Alliance

In Search of Thaelrid. Dawnwatcher Shaedlass sends you to Argent Guard Thaelrid inside the dungeon. The quest is open to the Horde too, writes Warcraft Tavern, but it starts deep in Darnassus.

Twilight Falls. Argent Guard Manados wants 10 Twilight Pendants. They drop from the Twilight Acolytes, Aquamancers, Elementalists, Loreseekers, Reavers and Shadowmages in the dungeon.

Knowledge in the Deeps. Gerrig Bonegrip wants the Lorgalis Manuscript, which lies in an alcove of the room of Ghamoo-ra.

Researching the Corruption. Gershala Nightwhisper wants 8 Corrupted Brain Stems from the satyrs and naga in and around the dungeon, Lady Sarevess included. The Corruption Abroad from Argos Nightwhisper in Stormwind leads to it; that quest is optional and gives 1,450 experience and 75 reputation with Darnassus.

Blackfathom Villainy. The same quest of Thaelrid, but the Alliance brings the head of Kelris to Dawnwatcher Selgorm in Darnassus.

Warlocks also come here for The Orb of Soran’ruk, a class quest for both factions. It is in the dungeon guide.

The bosses and their loot

The loot per boss comes from Wowhead, with the stats from the files of the beta.

Ghamoo-ra

A level 25 elite turtle with high armor. He Tramples a random party member, so the healer keeps everyone topped up. He can be stunned and feared.

Item New in Forever
Tortoise Armor Less armor, but 5 less damage from every spell
Ghamoo-ra’s Bind Blue, Stamina and up to 7 spell damage and healing

Lady Sarevess

A level 25 elite naga with two guards. Crowd control one guard and kill the other first. Her Forked Lightning is a frontal cone that jumps between players, so spread out. It can be interrupted, but then she casts Frost Nova on anyone close.

Item New in Forever
Naga Heartpiercer Blue, much more damage, and a chance to wound the target for 42; Naga are stunned
Darkwater Talwar Blue, 6 Attack Power, and its shadow bolt goes from 25 to 28
Naga Battle Gloves Up to 14 healing instead of Spirit

Gelihast

A level 26 elite murloc. Pull the adds of his room one by one, then pull him alone. His Net roots a random target and lowers their threat. After the fight, the stone behind him gives the Blessing of Blackfathom.

Item New in Forever
Reef Axe Blue, Strength and up to 24 healing
Algae Fists 4 Nature Resistance, 2 Strength less
Murloc Skin Bag Unchanged

Lorgus Jett

A level 26 elite and the target of Allegiance to the Old Gods. He drops no special loot. His Lightning Shield hurts the melee who hit him.

Baron Aquanis

A level 28 elite elemental, summoned at the Fathom Stone for Amongst the Ruins. He drops the Strange Water Globe and no other special loot.

Twilight Lord Kelris

A level 27 elite orc warlock in the ceremonial chamber. He casts Sleep and Mind Blast, and neither can be interrupted. When the tank is put to sleep, the next player on the threat list takes the hits.

Item New in Forever
Rod of the Sleepwalker Up to 32 spell damage and healing instead of Intellect, and 5% less chance to be put to sleep
Gaze Dreamer Pants Blue, up to 12 spell damage and healing instead of Intellect

Glowing Thresher Cape Up to 6 healing instead of Strength
Bands of Serra’kis Blue, 6 Strength and 3 Stamina

Aku’mai

Before his lair opens, all four braziers have to be lit, and each one brings a wave of monsters. The wave of turtles hits hardest; an off-tank, a pet or a Rogue with Evasion should take one of them, writes Wowhead.

The final boss, a level 28 elite hydra. Stay out of his Poison Cloud; it can be interrupted. Frenzied Rage gives him 75% more attack speed for 5 seconds. Save stuns and the tank’s cooldowns for it.

Item New in Forever
