The Hall of Thanes: the dungeon guide for WoW Forever
The Hall of Thanes is the new dungeon beneath Old Ironforge, for levels 13 to 18, and for most Alliance players the first one of WoW Forever. It is the resting place of the great Dwarves of the Eastern Kingdoms, and the Dark Iron Dwarves have broken in. Four bosses and five quests wait inside.

At a glance
| Levels | 13-18 according to Blizzard |
| Entrance | Old Ironforge, beneath the High Seat in Ironforge |
| Bosses | 4: Faldrim Anvilmar, Magmatus, Plunder, Durgen Dirgehammer |
| Quests | 5, all Alliance except An Ancient Grudge |
| Loot | Blue items that require level 13 |
| Spirit Healer | Just outside the city |
Getting there
Alliance. Walk into the High Seat of Ironforge. The door to Old Ironforge is immediately on the left. Follow the path all the way down to the portal.
Horde. The dungeon is the Alliance counterpart of Ragefire Chasm, and the way in is long. From Tarren Mill it goes through the Arathi Highlands, the Wetlands and Loch Modan to Dun Morogh, and then past the guards of Ironforge. A faster route has not been found. Take off your gear before the guards, so it does not lose durability when you die.
The exact way in. Stand at the Great Forge and face the High Seat, where King Magni Bronzebeard sits. Inside his hall, a cobwebbed passage opens on the left, at /way 43.5 52.0. Follow it all the way down. The path runs above lava, and a fall is lethal.

The quests at a glance
| Quest | Side | Where it starts | Experience |
|---|---|---|---|
| Important Heirlooms | Alliance | Thom Filch, Old Ironforge, /way 32.6 44.6 | 4,600 |
| The Restless Dead | Alliance | Afadra Dunwall, Old Ironforge | 3,550 |
| Old Ironforge Incursion | Alliance | Earthseer Farsen, Dun Morogh, /way 64.8 58.5, after a short chain | 4,950 |
| An Ancient Grudge | Both | A Ghostly Attendant, inside the dungeon | 3,550 |
| The Treaty of Understanding | Alliance | A tablet in a vault in the room of the final boss | 3,900 |
The quests are level 15 and 16 and can be picked up from level 9 or 10. Start with the chain in Dun Morogh: it is the only quest that does not begin at the dungeon, and it asks for the final boss.
Before you go: the chain in Dun Morogh
Earthseer Farsen stands at /way 64.8 58.5 in Dun Morogh. He gives Nip ’Em in the Bud: slay 10 Dark Iron Spies, found around /way 76.7 60.7. The road to Farsen starts with A Visitor to Dun Morogh, from Beldin Steelgrill at Steelgrill’s Depot.

One of the spies drops a
Dark Iron Map. Use it from your bags to start Underground Map, which sends you back to Farsen. He then hands out Old Ironforge Incursion: enter the Hall of Thanes and bring back the head of Durgen Dirgehammer.

The quests one by one
Important Heirlooms. Thom Filch waits by the bridge that leads into the Hall of Thanes. He asks for 8
Dwarven Heirlooms. They lie all over the dungeon from the first boss on, most of them on raised, candle-lit platforms. There is no need to fight the group for them: the vaults in the last room, the Reliquary of Kings, hold enough for five players. Reward: the Dwarven Tome or Tomb Robber’s Gloves, plus 100 reputation with Gadgetzan.

The Restless Dead. Afadra Dunwall, a Lorekeeper of Ironforge, stands up a flight of stairs on the way to the entrance. She wants 15 Enraged Apparitions and 10 Tormented Souls dead, the ghosts in the first three rooms. Reward: the Dusty Belt or Cryptwalker Bracers, plus 100 reputation with Ironforge.

An Ancient Grudge. A Ghostly Attendant waits in the second room, Anvilmar’s Rest. She asks you to put the spirit of Faldrim Anvilmar, the first boss, to rest. This is the one quest the Horde can do too. Whoever leaves without a Hearthstone passes her again on the way out, writes Warcraft Tavern. Reward: the Catacomb Cloak or Deepgrave Trousers.

Old Ironforge Incursion. Loot
Durgen Dirgehammer’s Head from the final boss and take it to King Magni Bronzebeard in Ironforge. Reward: a choice of the Calibrated Blunderbuss, the Ironforge Greathammer or Deepblaze, plus 100 reputation with Ironforge and with Gnomeregan Exiles.
The
Treaty of Understanding. Behind a vault door in the Reliquary of Kings lies a tablet with the sigils of Madoran Bronzebeard. It starts a quest without an item reward, for 3,900 experience and reputation with Ironforge and Gnomeregan Exiles: take the treaty to Magni Bronzebeard as well. It cannot be shared.

Quest rewards
In the order of the quests: Old Ironforge Incursion, Important Heirlooms, The Restless Dead and An Ancient Grudge.
The route through the dungeon
The Hall of Thanes is a straight line with one detour through a cave. From the portal:
- The first chamber. Tormented Souls and Enraged Apparitions, easy pulls. Take the corridor on the left, to the west.
- The Ghostly Attendant. In the next room she gives An Ancient Grudge. Then comes Anvilmar’s Rest, a large room with a tomb in the middle and Faldrim Anvilmar walking around it. Clear the ghosts first.
- The Dark Iron side. Leave Anvilmar’s Rest through the southeast corridor. From here the Dark Iron Dwarves take over. Kegs of
Seaforium Blasting Powder stand along the way: shoot them from range and they blow up the pack around them. - The cave. The tombs turn into a natural cavern, where Magmatus stands between Dark Iron Dwarves.
- Back into the halls. Up the tunnel waits a pack of four with two kegs beside it. Shoot both kegs at the same time before the pull.
- Plunder patrols the hallway right after.
- The Reliquary of Kings. North over a bridge guarded by Lesser Stone Golems lies the last room, with Durgen Dirgehammer. Behind one of the vault doors lies the Treaty of Understanding.
On the way out, hand in An Ancient Grudge with the Ghostly Attendant.

The four bosses
Faldrim Anvilmar
A ghost who patrols the middle of Anvilmar’s Rest. Clear one side of the room, wait until he comes your way and pull him there, away from the trash. He casts
Mind Blast and puts
Anvilmar’s Curse on the tank for 10 minutes: attack and casting speed 20% slower, but immune to poison and bleed effects. A player who removes curses makes this easier.
Faldrim does not pull the ghosts around him along, writes Warcraft Tavern, but give yourself room before the pull anyway.
Magmatus
A fire elemental with a Dark Iron Summoner at his side. Let the tank drag Magmatus away from the group and kill the Summoner first, because the boss sets off a fire nova now and then.
Combust sets a random player on fire for 12 seconds. A patrolling Summoner nearby is best taken out before the pull.

Plunder
A golem that patrols a hallway, with one ability:
Knock Away, which throws a player far. Pull him to a spot where nobody lands in a pack of trash, with the group against a wall or in a corner.

Durgen Dirgehammer
The final boss, in the Reliquary of Kings, with two Lesser Stone Golems at his side and Dark Iron Looters along the edges of the room. Clear the Looters first: his
Fear sends players running into them. He also puts
Rend on the tank. Kill the Golems one at a time; a Golem killed before a wipe does not come back, so every next try is easier. After the fight a switch in the back vault opens the locked doors, so the way out is short.
A Shaman who drops a
Tremor Totem before the pull makes the fear harmless.
Trash
The first rooms are easy; the Dark Iron side is not.
Dark Iron Looters and Engineers. Looters attack fast with daggers and drain the tank quickly when several come at once, so kill them first. Engineers throw bombs at a spot on the ground, and that damage can be dodged completely.

Dark Iron Summoners. They cast
Fireball and call up a Fiery Assistant for 30 seconds. Pull them around a pillar or a wall, out of sight, so they have to come closer.

Lesser Stone Golems. They hit hardest and move fast. Pull one at a time where possible, and focus one down before the next. The last pack before the final boss holds a Summoner, a Looter and a Golem together:
Polymorph on one of them and stuns such as
Hammer of Justice help. Healers draw a lot of threat at these levels.

Bloodhound Runts. Their bite leaves Infected Wounds for 5 minutes: more physical damage taken. Without a class that removes disease, a
Simple Poultice from First Aid or the Dwarf racial
Stoneform cures it.
Seaforium kegs. Kegs of Seaforium Blasting Powder stand next to several Dark Iron packs. A ranged player shoots them and the pack takes the blast.
What is not known yet
- Whether the Horde will get a faster way to Ironforge before the launch on 4 November.
- Whether rewards and levels change before launch.
The walkthrough of the dungeon with Jurdi’s video is in the post The Hall of Thanes holds four bosses and five quests. All dungeons are in the dungeon guide.
