Shadowfang Keep: the dungeon guide for WoW Forever

Shadowfang Keep was the castle of Baron Silverlaine in Silverpine Forest. Archmage Arugal summoned worgen there to defend Dalaran, and they overran the keep. Arugal now lives in its highest tower with the worgen as his pack. The dungeon is the same as in Classic; its loot is largely new in WoW Forever.

Getting there

The keep stands in the mountains just north of Pyrewood Village in Silverpine Forest, at /way 44.5 68.0. For the Horde, the Sepulcher with all three quest givers is a short ride away.

For the Alliance, Silverpine Forest at this level is a long and dangerous trip. Skyborne characters have it easier: they reach the zone fairly quickly from Dalaran, writes Warcraft Tavern.

The route

  1. The cells. Rethilgore guards the prisoners at the start. Kill him to open the door to the courtyard; the prisoner of your faction, Deathstalker Adamant for the Horde or Sorcerer Ashcrombe for the Alliance, opens it.
  2. The courtyard and the kitchen. Razorclaw the Butcher stands in the kitchen with a few adds.
  3. The dining hall. The ghost of Baron Silverlaine haunts it, surrounded by a room full of adds.
  4. The upper hall. Commander Springvale waits in a room of Wailing Guardsmen. Pull them in small groups. The rare Deathsworn Captain does not always spawn.
  5. The ramparts. Odo the Blindwatcher and his Vile Bats, then Fenrus the Devourer in the room with The Book of Ur.
  6. The tower. Wolf Master Nandos guards the door to Arugal with his wolves. Archmage Arugal waits at the top with three worgen.

The level is the lowest level at which the quest can be picked up, according to Wowhead. None of the three needs an earlier quest, so a Horde group can pick them all up at once and share them. The rewards come from Wowhead; where it lists none, they are not known yet.

Deathstalkers in Shadowfang

High Executor Hadrec sends you to find Deathstalker Adamant and Deathstalker Vincent. Vincent’s body lies just past Rethilgore, to the right of the stairs into the courtyard. The quest is finished and handed in inside the dungeon.

The Book of Ur

Keeper Bel’dugur in The Apothecarium wants The Book of Ur. It stands on a shelf in the room of Fenrus the Devourer, near the end of the dungeon. The book is easy to forget in the middle of a fight, so look for it before you move on.

Arugal Must Die

Dalar Dawnweaver at the Sepulcher wants the Head of Arugal, from the final boss.

Two class quests also lead here: The Orb of Soran’ruk for Warlocks of both factions, and The Test of Righteousness for Paladins of the Alliance. Both are in the dungeon guide.

The bosses and their loot

The loot per boss comes from Wowhead, with the stats from the files of the beta.

Rethilgore

A level 20 elite worgen with two Bleak Worgs and a Shadowfang Whitescalp. The worgs cast Wavering Will, which slows casting and attacks, and Rethilgore’s Soul Drain hurts. Kill the adds first.

Item New in Forever
Rugged Spaulders Blue instead of white: extra armor and 2 to every resistance

Fel Steeds and the Shadow Charger

The Fel Steed and the Shadow Charger hit very hard, and pulling one pulls all three, writes Wowhead. Polymorph one and let a Hunter or Warlock pet tank another.

Item New in Forever
Fel Steed Saddlebags A unique bag with 10 slots

Razorclaw the Butcher

A level 22 elite in the kitchen, with adds to mark and kill first. His Butcher Drain hits the tank throughout the fight.

Item New in Forever
Bloody Apron Blue, 7 health every 5 seconds and up to 13 healing
Butcher’s Cleaver Lower minimum damage, higher maximum
Blueprint: Tanning Rack New: places a Tanning Rack at a campsite, Leatherworking 140
Butcher’s Slicer Blue, 6 Attack Power and 3 Stamina

Baron Silverlaine

A level 24 elite ghost. Clear his room first. His Veil of Shadow lowers the healing the tank receives by 75%; it can be interrupted and decursed.

Item New in Forever
Baron’s Scepter Party members within 30 yards regenerate 4 health every 5 seconds
Silverlaine’s Family Seal 2% faster in Tirisfal Glades, Silverpine Forest and Shadowfang Keep, but less Strength

Commander Springvale

A level 24 elite in a room full of adds. The Wailing Guardsmen cast Screams of the Past, so pull them in small groups. At 30% health Springvale casts Divine Shield and then Holy Light; interrupt the Holy Light.

Item New in Forever
Arced War Axe Blue, 9 Strength and 9 Stamina
Commander’s Crest 4 health every 5 seconds instead of Spirit, needs level 21 instead of 23

Odo the Blindwatcher

A level 24 elite worgen with a pack of Vile Bats. His Howling Rage gives him more attack power as his health drops. Kill the bats first and save the damage cooldowns for when he is below half health.

Item New in Forever
Odo’s Ley Staff A healer’s staff: up to 52 healing
Girdle of the Blindwatcher Up to 6 spell damage and healing, and better stealth detection

Deathsworn Captain, a rare

A level 25 rare elite who does not always spawn. He uses Cleave, so the tank turns him away from the group.

Item New in Forever
Haunting Blade No Spirit, up to 33 healing
Phantom Armor Blue, almost the same stats

Fenrus the Devourer

A level 25 elite wolf without adds, who guards the way to Arugal. A plain damage race, but he hits the tank hard.

Item New in Forever
Black Wolf Bracers Blue, extra armor and 4 Attack Power
Fenrus’ Hide Blue, 6 Agility and 3 Stamina

Wolf Master Nandos

A level 25 elite worgen who guards the door to Arugal. At 80% health he calls his pack of four wolves; the tank has to pick them up quickly.

Item New in Forever
Wolfmaster Cape Attack Power instead of Agility, more against Beasts
Feline Mantle Up to 3 spell damage and healing, and you take less falling damage

Archmage Arugal

The final boss, a level 26 elite. Kill the three worgen in his room first. Arugal teleports through the room, takes control of players and casts Void Bolt, which cannot be interrupted. Arugal’s Curse cannot be dispelled; crowd control a cursed player instead of attacking them. Shadow Resistance helps.

Item New in Forever
Robes of Arugal Up to 18 healing and 8 Shadow Resistance, less Intellect and Spirit
Belt of Arugal Up to 9 spell damage and healing, less Intellect
Meteor Shard Its Fire blast goes from 35 to 42 damage

What is not known yet

  • The drop rates of the boss loot.
  • The quest rewards that Wowhead does not list yet.
  • The way in for the Alliance: how fast it really is for the Skyborne from Dalaran.
